In light of the horrifying events in Paris I am sharing this article below. It talks about ways of processing our own feelings about terrifying violent events and has strategies for ways of dealing with this with our children.
Many of us are very upset by what we are seeing on the news today…Children are like barometers to our emotions and may pick up that something has happened. Where possible shield young children from the news today, their young brains cannot process violent acts, but it is ok to be honest with your feelings “Mummy is upset about something she saw on the news, I just need a little cry and I will be ok”. This honesty can help children stop feeling confused or anxious about what is happening.
My thoughts are with the children and families of those who have been injured or lost their lives.
